Transendental Drama, Super 16mm, 2023, 23 mins

After her friend June’s unexpected death, sound recordist Julie travels to the Appalachian mountains to deliver the news to her reclusive brother, Steven. While attempting to reconnect with him, she must navigate his cold behavior and emotional distance in order to process the situation constructively and properly grieve.
Using the framework and language of transcendental-style filmmaking, The Last Best Thing presents a contemporary look on the nonlinear aspects of grief and plays with our dependence on medium as a means to process time.
